Is Clove oil good for tooth pain?
Using clove oil to soothe tooth pain is an old wives remedy that is happily backed up by science.
The active agent in Clove oil is Eugenol; natures very own anaesthetic. Not only does it numb pain but reduces inflammation and has the added bonus of its antibacterial properties.
Clove is wonderfully effective at easing toothache. It's also readily available in some form in most pharmacies or health food shops!
What is clove oil?
Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree called Syzygium aromaticum, which is native to Indonesian Islands. Cloves are used as a spice to flavour anything from drinks, to deserts, to savoury dishes.
It’s strange to think that something you would find in almost any kitchen cupboard was once worth its weight in gold!
Our ancestors were unlikely to have known the science, but the health benefits of clove oil were well known to them. Cloves have been used medicinally as far back as the third century!
What are the benefits of clove oil?
The benefits of Clove oil are numerous. It can be used to treat everything from athletes foot to respiratory issues.
In 2012, a study showed that Clove oil was effective in fighting dental erosion from acidic drinks, (in this case apple juice), thus fighting cavities. Whilst in 2006, a study backed up the long-held belief that it is extremely useful in soothing pain.
How to use Clove oil for toothache
Often people recommend applying a few drops of clove oil onto a cotton ball and dabbing it directly to the affected area. However, as with all essential oils, you should always avoid using it neat. Clove oil can cause irritation if you use it without diluting it first. Always dilute essential oils by mixing a few drops into a carrier oil such as olive oil or melted coconut oil.
Clove oil (or eugenol) can be found in over-the-counter toothache remedies, carefully formulated for safety.
If you are looking for immediate relief, the numbing effects of clove can be experienced almost instantly. You may feel it has helped reduce pain, reduced swelling, and provided relief, but it is important to visit your dentist to treat the underlying oral health concern.

from 1721 reviewsMy whole mouth feels cleaner and fresher and so good to think I am doing less harm to the planet. Can't wait for my dental check up to measure the difference in my receeding gums.

I have had truthpaste for a week or so now & use it twice a day. It took a bit of getting used to as it is a whole different experience to "normal" toothpaste. My teeth feel really smooth & clean & my breath is fresh. I like the recyclable jars instead of more plastic waste even though we can put used tubes in our recycling. Whether my husband will change to Truthpaste I am not sure but it is there for him to try. Will be interesting to see if my dentist notices a difference in my oral health. I have not needed to have any treatment in over 13 years of twice yearly check ups. Will see how long the jar lasts then do the maths on the cost of this alternative.

Bought this toothpaste upon recommendation by a friend and so far so good. Not sure how well it's actually performing under a qualified dental inspection as I'm yet to have my 6-month checkup. Will be interesting though to see if my Dental Practice can see any difference. Pleasant to use and teeth feel clean afterwards.

very pleased with this purchase seems to be helping with the general cleanliness of my teeth. Prompt delivery and item well packaged.

Best toothpaste l've ever tried highly recommend

I love this toothpaste, it seems to last for ages and my teeth feel really clean after brushing, I won't be going back to supermarket brands now.

Ideal travel size of the original toothpaste and a reusable tin. Love it

Enjoying my new thuthpaste and seems its going to last a long time

I had a bad start, I ended up with thrush in my mouth, however, I realised I wasn’t putting the right amount on my toothbrush after seeing a Truthpaste advert. I have tried 3 flavours and prefer the fennel one. My mouth feels clean and fresh. I haven’t been to the dentist yet, to see if they have noticed. I like the product, hence being on my 3rd pot.

I'm a bit of a sucker for ordering things off the back of Facebook ads, and so far I've been lucky everytime. This stuff is great and leaves your teeth cleaner than any traditional toothpaste... Very happy and have taken out a subscription

I have been using hydroxyapartite toothpaste for over a year but since using the kids truthpaste I have seen an improvement in my gums and my teeth look cleaner.
The

Great that it comes in recyclable packaging, not like the plastic tubes you get, after using it for a couple of weeks I can say that my gums feel less inflamed after brushing my teeth than when I was using fluoride toothpaste, overall I am impressed, would definitely recommend.

Ever the skeptic I was dubious that Truthpaste would work. Well after two weeks I was 100% converted! I can feel and SEE the difference at the gum line where there was tooth erosion and my teeth are whiter too. No fluoride makes it perfect! Well satisfied! 😁

Strong taste but not overwhelming, not too thick or too runny, bigger jar than other similar products. Happy with my purchase
