Is Clove oil good for tooth pain?
Using clove oil to soothe tooth pain is an old wives remedy that is happily backed up by science.
The active agent in Clove oil is Eugenol; natures very own anaesthetic. Not only does it numb pain but reduces inflammation and has the added bonus of its antibacterial properties.
Clove is wonderfully effective at easing toothache. It's also readily available in some form in most pharmacies or health food shops!
What is clove oil?
Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree called Syzygium aromaticum, which is native to Indonesian Islands. Cloves are used as a spice to flavour anything from drinks, to deserts, to savoury dishes.
It’s strange to think that something you would find in almost any kitchen cupboard was once worth its weight in gold!
Our ancestors were unlikely to have known the science, but the health benefits of clove oil were well known to them. Cloves have been used medicinally as far back as the third century!
What are the benefits of clove oil?
The benefits of Clove oil are numerous. It can be used to treat everything from athletes foot to respiratory issues.
In 2012, a study showed that Clove oil was effective in fighting dental erosion from acidic drinks, (in this case apple juice), thus fighting cavities. Whilst in 2006, a study backed up the long-held belief that it is extremely useful in soothing pain.
How to use Clove oil for toothache
Often people recommend applying a few drops of clove oil onto a cotton ball and dabbing it directly to the affected area. However, as with all essential oils, you should always avoid using it neat. Clove oil can cause irritation if you use it without diluting it first. Always dilute essential oils by mixing a few drops into a carrier oil such as olive oil or melted coconut oil.
Clove oil (or eugenol) can be found in over-the-counter toothache remedies, carefully formulated for safety.
If you are looking for immediate relief, the numbing effects of clove can be experienced almost instantly. You may feel it has helped reduce pain, reduced swelling, and provided relief, but it is important to visit your dentist to treat the underlying oral health concern.

from 2190 reviewsI have been using their tooth paste for quite a while now and thought I'd try a new flavour. This one changes in flavour as you brush and it's does end up citrus. As always though it cleans brilliantly and I won't go back to standard toothpaste again..
Thank you for creating such a natural toothpaste. This toothpaste is so easy to use and just cleans my teeth with no strong, strong mouth numbing mintyness that regular toothpaste gives. My teeth feel so clean.
Love the glass jar too.
I love this toothpaste. It gets my teeth so clean and mouth feels fresh.
My package was the paste and the mouthwash.
I suffer with gum problems and have recently had yet another tooth extracted.
This duo have really helped the bleeding gums, and my teeth feel better than a dental polish. I don’t use fluoride toothpaste anymore, it’s never helped my problem.
So pleased with my purchase, I shall replenish my stocks once they run low, although the paste will obviously last months.
I’m sure it’ll be great, but I haven’t tried it yet!
Truthpaste is refreshing to your mouth. Teeth feel really clean. Staying with this brand. Also Love the mouth wash to.
Been using Truthpaste for a while now and my gums are best ever! :-)
Quite simply, this is the only toothpaste I trust and use
I have used this at least twice a day for 2 months now. It is amazingly reassuring to know that after I eat and drink, my mouth gets a good rinse out and my oral bacteria are boosted. I love this company and have been using their products for over a year. I started with the hydroxyappatite toothpaste, then added the enamel repair mask, then the mouthwash and bamboo floss. The latter is a littlie, but critical - plastic floss is literally rubbing toxic forever chemicals into gums, which is sheer madness. Having never sustained floss use, I now understand why - I instinctively knew the plastic stuff wasn't a good idea.
Excellent natural product for maintaining healthy teeth.
Fabulous mouthwash, exactly the same as the non-wonky version. I love it!
After having teeth sensitivity and using higher strength fluoride I thought Truthpaste was worth a trial and so far so good! I like the feel and finish and freshness it leaves, and after 2 weeks it’s too early to see if sensitivity is that much better but here’s hoping!
Delighted to discover truthpaste a UK/ European toothpaste in an environment dominated by global American brands. No plastic and a delightful refreshing taste that cleans my teeth well without all the uneccessary foam of traditional pastes.
I got this as a gift for a friend who’s been making her own toothpaste, she loves it she said that her teeth feel really clean,
